If you are a Manchester United fan and was secretly hoping Sir Alex Ferguson would take back his managerial position at the club, then, I am sorry – your dreams have been shattered.
Sir Alex Ferguson, who retired from his position as the head honcho at Manchester United at the end of last season, recently buried any speculation (if there was any) over whether or not he will return to United as their manager.
In an interview aired by PBS in the USA, Fergie bluntly said that he is definitely NOT keen to return to United: ”I’m not interested in managing again or getting myself worked up about Manchester United’s results,”
Well, quite frankly, that was a definite no. Fergie, who managed the current champions for a staggering 27 years from 1986 to 2013, insisted that United is in good hands. And by that he means the hands of new manager David Moyes.
Amidst all the talk going on about Moyes’ ability to manage the Red Devils, Fergie stood up for his fellow Scotsman:
“United are in good hands with David Moyes. He will be fine. He is a good manager.”
Manchester United has not been doing too well as of late, with only 2 wins behind their name so far. Many have criticized Dvid Moyes’ managerial skills and has, perhaps unfairly, but the blame on him.
However, that doesn’t mean 71-year old Fergie actually cares. He said: ”I made my decision. The timing was perfect. There’s no way back for me now. I’ve got a new life.”
By new life, the legendary (ex) manager said that he would like to enjoy his retirement. He wants to travel, do exciting things and watch other sports such as golfing championships and maybe even swing by the Kentucky Derby.
Well, with almost 27 years behind him as one of, if not THE best managers soccer has ever seen, we can fully understand that old Fergie wants a break – and deservedly so!
